- For the Vietnamese woodworkers, palm wood is a beautiful and fast-growing raw material. The disadvantage is that it curves quickly. Piet Hein Eek solved this problem with a special design. The baskets and bowls are constructed of thin strips of wood strung together. These can shrink and expand as much as they like, but the product remains intact. For strong knots and sturdy thread, the woodworkers asked advice from the fishermen in their village.
